See Saw Margery Daw
Seesaw Margery Daw,
Johnny shall have a new master,
He shall earn but a penny a day,
Because he can't work any faster.
This rhyme was first published at the beginning of the 18th Century
It is thought that this rhyme is about child labour in the industrial revolution. Children were deprived of their time to play because they had to work for long hours and not much pay.
